Ella's First Words

Well, the time has come to post on Ella's newest words. Over the last few weeks we have come to the realization that her real first word is not mama nor dada, but...woof. As in "I see a dog" kind of woof. And she's not really sure what a dog constitutes either, because she may say woof and point to a donkey or camel picture as well. But it's a mighty cute woof, because as she says it she blows up her cheeks and lets out this soft woof, with a little sparkle in her eye and a shy smile like she's so proud of herself.

Just Monday she said da da and ma ma for the first time, although at any time either one may sound more like ba ba. Our hearts are warm that our little girl knows our names. =)

Other noteworthy communications include motions to the book Baby Cakes, where there are parts that go "Touch my little baby cakes on the nose, smooch my little baby cakes on the toes..." and she points to her nose and offers us her toes to kiss. "Hug my little baby cakes oh so tight..." gets a self hug and a small grunt like she's hugging someone so tight.

I love this stage where it's clear she's communicating to us and she knows what we are talking about too. There will come a time in the near future where we'll begin to post new words weekly, but for now a simple mama, dada, or woof makes us smile.
