Now we aren't Los Angeles with all that fancy anti-quake technology, so we did have some damage. And a close call. (Pictures below.) Luckily Colin has quick hands.
The epicenter was about 180 miles away in southeast Illinois on the New Madrid line. It was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Milwaukee, and Des Moines, Iowa, 450 miles northwest of the epicenter. The last major quake in this area occurred on June 10, 1987, registering a 5. Naturally it was the talk of the town and Colin was jumping for joy when the news confirmed our thoughts. Literally jumping.

Colin nearly had a shoe fall off the rack. We had a couple of pictures that were a little crooked. We didn't take a picture of that because you could only tell by using a level. Our ice cubes were all wavy in those little ice maker things. The freezer must have amplified the quake somehow. And good thing Daddy caught Jackson just before he was shaken out of his crib!

Fortunately, all of our furniture was shaken back into the new room and reassembled for us. That sure saved us some trouble.
