Yup, it's started! I hemmed and hawed about when to start our oldest in the soccer system here. I was not a fan of the "bee hive" style of soccer the game turns into when you have 3 and 4 year olds playing with no idea what they're supposed to be doing. I thought, "What's the point? A few kids who know what they are doing take the ball on a break away and the rest just end up chasing them all over the field. How much fun us that?"
"That's how you started playing, and you turned out fine." my brother
would say. But now as a parent, I just think it's counterproductive. But
then a 3v3 format presented itself where the kids would have the
opportunity to really be involved more (and hey, who knows, some passing
may even occur) and I conceded, signing Jackson up with high hopes. Of
course. I mean, if his parents played, then he should be a soccer
prodigy, right? Ummmm, well, in the first few moments of the game our
little guy watched a boy dribble right past him and score, without even
moving an inch. Colin and I looked at each other and laughed, like,
"What's going on?"...and realized that it may take a while until Jackson
is ready for the national team! =)

| Jackson and buddy Roman comparing muscles before they play |
 |
| Turns out the one thing Jackson did understand was how to chase down an opponent. |
 |
| Moves, moves! (Probably not, but it looks like it!) |
 |
| Jackson's favorite part of the game was snack time- oranges at halftime and Scooby snacks and juice at the end. |

PS- Best comment of the game from Jackson: As he's running by us he says to himself,
"Rocket speed!"

UGH. Right? Elijah did a soccer class for a few years. I taught the basics of how to handle a ball, passing, etc. It was an AMAZING program. We JUST put him on a team last fall. It's 5v5, BUT they stop the game and explain what's going on and how to play. There is no score only wahoo!!! He did go to soccer camp last summer which was amazing, but SO hot! But it's a learning experience and by the end of the season, he'll be better and he's learning about team spirit if nothing else! Have fun!! And snack at the end is ALWAYS the favorite!!
That's how you started playing, and you turned out fine!!!!
Nice one, An.
